Situated in the South East of South Australia, the Mount Gambier region of the Limestone Coast boasts the beautiful Blue Lake as its star attraction. During November to March the lake turns to a picture perfect majestic blue colour. The City of Mount Gambier is built around the slopes of a dormant volcano which is comprised of three craters. the Blue Lake, the Valley Lake and the Leg of Mutton Lakeone of which contains the famous Lake.

The city and district has many dry limestone caves, (some of which are actually beneath the city), as well as numerous wet caves and sinkholes which are renown worldwide amongst the cave diving fraternity. Some of these caves were used in the 3D film "Sanctum".

To the North is historic Penola and the world-famous vignerons of Coonawarra.

To the South  is Port MacDonnell, Australia's Southern Rock Lobster capital.

To the East is Piccanninie Ponds and the peaceful Glenelg River plus the port of Portland and beautiful Bridgewater Bay.

To the West is Millicent, with its facinating Windfarm, and the coastal towns of Beachport, Robe and Kingston.

The picturesque countryside allows enjoyable relaxing riding through grazing, dairying and cropping properties spread amongst pine forests, bluegum plantations and scrubland.

WEEKLY NEWS UPDATES

Mildura AGM Photos can now be viewed on the "Photo album" page along with photos of other rides this year.

Sunday 22nd April: Lunch at Naracoorte Caves.
Considering the unpredictable weather forcast it was pleasing to have 19 members take part in the outing. The group riding from Mt Gambier took the more interesting route via Glencoe and then Langkoop to come in the backway to the Caves. We only got as far as Glencoe when a number of the riders made a dive for their wet weather gear. However after passing through that shower we had a dry run the rest of the way up. It was difficult to keep the riders together as a tight group but the corner markers worked well so no-one got lost. We were designated our own area at the Caves Cafe where we enjoyed our lunch and the usual camaraderie.
